Qigong & Yin Somatic Yoga Retreat 2025

Qigong & Yin Somatic Yoga Retreat 2025

Discover the transformative power of harmonizing mind, body, and spirit at Yoga Evolution Retreats’ Qigong and Yoga Retreat, scheduled for May 4th to 10th, 2025. Nestled in the serene landscapes of central Portugal, this retreat offers an immersive experience that blends the ancient practices of Qigong, Yin Yoga, and Somatic Yoga to promote holistic well-being.

Harmonizing the Five Elements

Central to the retreat is the theme of “Harmonizing the Five Elements,” focusing on balancing earth, fire, water, metal, and wood within the body. This balance is believed to influence both emotional and physical health, leading to overall wellness. Participants will engage in practices designed to harmonize these elements:

  1. Earth Element: Associated with nourishment and stability, the earth element is balanced through grounding techniques such as Qigong, Yin Yoga, and nature walks. Consuming nutrient-dense foods like root vegetables further supports this element.
  2. Fire Element: Representing transformation and digestion, the fire element is linked to the heart in Qigong. Breathwork and specific Qigong movements, including muscle tendon-changing forms, help balance heart fire.
  3. Water Element: Symbolizing flexibility and fluidity, the water element is harmonized through activities that promote fluid movement, such as swimming and specific Qigong and Yin Yoga sequences. Staying hydrated and consuming water-rich foods also support this element.
  4. Metal Element: Associated with stability, clarity, and precision, the metal element corresponds to the autumn season. Practices focusing on structure and organization, along with mindfulness techniques, help balance this element.
  5. Wood Element: Linked to growth and renewal, the wood element is connected to spring. Mindfulness practices, such as kindness meditation, enhance this element, promoting personal development and regeneration.

Comprehensive Practice Schedule

Throughout the retreat, participants will engage in approximately four hours of physical practice daily, including:

  • Special Warm-Up Sequences: Gentle preparations for muscles and joints, crafted by Peter, to ready the body for Qigong practices.
  • Adapted Classics: Modern interpretations of traditional forms like the Yi Jin Jing (Muscle/Tendon Changing Classic) and the Ba Duan Jin (Eight Silk Brocades).
  • Seasonal Qigong: Practices tailored to the season, aiming to purge, tone, and enhance lung function, which is particularly receptive during this time.

Yin Yoga Integration

Complementing the Qigong sessions, the retreat incorporates Yin Yoga—a gentle practice emphasizing long-held, passive stretches targeting the body’s connective tissues. Key aspects include:

  • Long Holds: Postures maintained for three to ten minutes to facilitate deep tissue release.
  • Targeted Focus: Emphasis on areas rich in connective tissues, such as hips, pelvis, and lower spine.
  • Mindful Breathing: Encouraging a meditative state to promote relaxation and mental clarity.

Additional Retreat Highlights

Beyond the physical practices, the retreat offers:

  • Meditation Sessions: Drawing from Buddhist and Daoist traditions to cultivate inner peace.
  • Gong Sound Baths: Utilizing sound healing to enhance relaxation and energy balance.
  • Informal Lectures: Discussions on topics like fascia and five-element theory, providing deeper insights into the practices.

Expert Guidance

The retreat is led by experienced instructors Peter and Sue, who have extensively studied with Qigong masters, including Master Mantak Chia and Dr. Yang Jwing Ming. Their combined expertise ensures a rich and informed experience for all participants.

Immersive Natural Setting

Weather permitting, sessions will be held in the Bagua—a unique eight-sided outdoor practice space—enhancing grounding and connection with nature. The retreat center’s tranquil environment provides the perfect backdrop for this transformative journey.

Yoga Retreats 2022, Spring is in the air and we are getting ready for our retreats and yin training courses

Where does the time go?

We finished our retreat back in November and have been spending the winter months making some changes to our facilities. Last year we upgraded our dining room area with a lovely star gazing deck and built two new outdoor toilets. one was placed next to the swimming pool and the other at the back of the practice space. We also managed to build a new house for the chickens as they had little chicks and needed a little more room. Our donkey Willow also moved into his new stable and is really happy.

For the first few months of 2022 we have been focusing on making the yoga retreat facilities more user friendly and have installed two new shower rooms. one will serve as an en-suite and the other will be for just two rooms to share. We are pretty sure that this will be more than enough to ensure that there is no queuing to use the toilet as we identified this as being an issue.

During 2020 we have some great retreats on offer  that will be the perfect escape to rest and learn new ways to keep your practice inspired and full of wonderful ways to work with the body/mind and energy. Choose from our Evolutionary yoga weeks which incorporate some of the most powerful and trans-formative practices from all over the world as well as an astrological perspective. Our qigong (Chinese yoga) practice explores the energy channels of the body known as the rivers or meridians and organ health. We use these practices to purge the body of toxins or stagnant qi before we use more advanced practices to re-fill our energy reservoirs with nourished qi. Our vinyasa practice or sequence of postures is both challenging and meditative building a strong physical body with endurance. Check our yoga retreat calendar out for more information.
